Jetsetter, Marriott Traveler, Matador Networks, Sunset Magazine and USA Today’s 10Best Recognize Truckee, California’s Distinct Sense of Place

TRUCKEE, Calif. - Nov. 28, 2017 - Truckee, California has long been a popular destination among outdoor recreationalists who come to the Sierra to ski, snowboard, climb, paddle, hike, mountain bike and enjoy a multitude of other outdoor sports and activities. The town has also been recognized over the years for its evolving culinary and craft beer scene, and more recently, for fostering an entrepreneurial spirit that has resulted in the creation of many thriving local businesses. For these reasons and more, five national travel sites and their readers have recently awarded Truckee top honors that include “Coolest Ski Town in North America,” and among the top destinations for “Best Ski Town,” “Best Mountain Towns in America” and “Best Places to Live.”

“It’s quite an honor to be recognized among the best mountain towns, coolest ski towns and places to live by the editors and readers of such well regarded publications,” said Colleen Dalton, brand communications director for the Truckee Chamber of Commerce. “Truckee certainly has a special place in the minds and hearts of many, and it’s exciting to see that the momentum our community has is something people want to be part of.”

Nominated by USA Today 10Best.com travel experts, the site’s readers voted and recently awarded Truckee among the top destinations in the “Best Ski Town” category of its annual 2017 Readers’ Choice awards. Truckee took the fourth spot in the list of 10 best ski towns, with the editors noting “convenience (to 12 downhill and eight Nordic ski areas within a 10-mile radius) isn’t Truckee’s only appeal; the town has a dining scene that offers everything from hearty comfort food to fine dining, as well as plenty of off-slope activities.” This is the second time Truckee has been recognized in this category in the past three years.

Matador Network, a social networking site for travelers, recently named Truckee the “2018 Coolest Ski Town in North America.” The editors noted: “Truckee is rad because it sits in the middle of more ski areas than anywhere else in the West.” Editors also shared that Truckee’s growth over the past several years, including ski resorts and new downtown businesses contributed to its selection, along with the fact that despite change, the town has retained its laid back vibe.

Part of the TripAdvisor family of travel sites, Jetsetter aims to provide readers with insider access and expert knowledge of travel destinations and experiences. In an October 2017 story, the travel site included Truckee among the “9 Best Mountain Towns in America,” noting that “this gem of a town has managed to retain its rough-and-tumble spirit.” Readers are encouraged to get outside and explore Truckee, then end the day with craft beers and people watching.

Marriott Traveler also included Truckee in its listing of the “7 Best Mountain Towns in America.” Finally, Sunset Magazine announced Truckee is a finalist in its annual “Best Places to Live” feature. The winning location and runners-up will be announced in the magazine’s February 2018 issue.
