TRUCKEE, Calif. – At a recent Board of Education meeting, TTUSD’s board unanimously approved a resolution honoring National Hispanic Heritage Month, September 15 - October 15, 2017. National Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates U.S. Latinos, their culture, and their history. The celebration begins in the middle of September to coincide with national independence days in several Latin American countries including Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Mexico, Chile, and Belize.

The theme for the 2017 National Hispanic Heritage Month is “Shaping the Bright Future of America,” and during this month-long celebration TTUSD will honor the significant contributions made and the important presence of Hispanic Americans in the United States and celebrate the group’s heritage and culture.

The quality of life in Tahoe Truckee schools is enhanced by the richness and beauty of the Hispanic culture. Hispanic Americans have helped to shape our Tahoe Truckee community through a strong commitment to family, faith, and community, an enduring work ethic and many contributions to society as well as in our classrooms.

TTUSD’s board resolution proclaims that its schools will stand with the nation in recognizing September 15 to October 15 as National Hispanic Heritage Month with activities appropriate to the occasion, and to value the roles and contributions of Hispanics to the local and national economies, culture, and identity.
