Join knit-wear designer Gudrun Johnston in this four-part beginner knitting class. Participants will master basic stitches and learn about yarn, needles, and pattern reading. This class is intended for individuals who have never held knitting needles or for those who learned many years ago. Because all of us move at a different pace, the class descriptions outlined below are very loose guidelines to what we hope to cover in each session.
APRIL 1
basic knitting vocabulary, tools, casting on, knit stitch
APRIL 8
purl stitch, fixing dropped stitches, casting off
APRIL 15
gauge and why it’s important, shaping by increasing or decreasing stitches
APRIL 22
getting familiar with following knitting patterns, picking out the right size needles and type of yarn for a project
