Event Description:
Tahoe’s housing shortage continues to grow. At the same time, local forest restoration and wildfire mitigation projects are producing a large amount of wood from Tahoe forests. What if this excess wood, typically trucked elsewhere for processing or burned in piles, could be turned into local construction materials?

Join us on Friday, April 24, 1-4pm in Hobart Mills (Truckee, CA) for a hands-on workshop where we will demonstrate how to make locally milled wood into code-approved mass timber panels for use in workforce housing, ADUs, and other residential applications. Together, we will build panels of nail-laminated timber (NLT), an engineered wood product that's simple and inexpensive to make and can be used for wall, floor, and roof panels in Tahoe-area homes.

This is an opportunity for local contractors, prospective entrepreneurs, regional housing advocates, sustainability leaders, and other community members to learn, brainstorm, and network, supporting the future of local wood construction in the Tahoe region. Co-organized by the Tahoe Prosperity Center, Berkeley Wood Lab, Tahoe Earth Institute, and US Forest Service Truckee Hotshots and supported by the North Tahoe Community Alliance's TOT-TBID Dollars at Work program.
