From tree to spoon, we will be working with freshly harvested greenwood (wood that is still wet) from California. We will discuss what to look for when selecting wood, tips for spoon design, and how to carve with confidence. Learn to safely use a sloyd knife and hook knife, with emphasis on technique and efficient carving. Then design and carve your own wooden spoon from freshly cut wood using only hand tools and your creativity. No carving experience needed.
This course is great for continuing and beginning spoon carvers. We will touch on purchasing appropriate tools, sharpening, and sourcing wood. We hope to spark interest in carving and related crafts.
