For over forty years, Dr. Cummins has devoted his career to creating opportunities for all children to have equitable access to a quality education. He has founded and co-founded numerous schools including Crossroads School, New Roads School, Camino Nuevo Charter School, and New Village Charter School, as well as P.S. Arts, a nonprofit organization that provides arts classes to children in Title I schools. Also a prolific author, Cummins has published four books on education, a biography, two volumes of his original poetry, and two children’s books. In addition to Confessions of a Headmaster, he has a forthcoming book entitled Engaged Education: New Visions for Joy and Success in Learning.

Highlights of the topics Dr. Cummins will discuss include:• Effects of academic pressure on kids
• Positive parenting including how to help troubled teens
• Technology and cyberbullying

• The five other life learning opportunities beyond- English, math, science, history and foreign languages
• Arts, physical education, human development, social emotional learning, environmental education, community action/service
• We are custodians of our kids and we are trying to help them have a joyful childhood.

Key questions we should ask:
• Is there any balance in our student’s life?
• Do they have any leisure time?
• Without leisure there can be no learning
• Is school/learning joyful – do they look forward to going to school everyday?
• What can parents do to ensure the kids are successful, happy and engaged?
