Truckee Chamber - Lunch and Learn - Preparing for Power Outages - Town of Truckee Energy Resilience Plan Development

Sierra Business Council (SBC) is working with the Town of Truckee to develop the Town’s Energy Resilience Plan, which will help identify practical strategies to strengthen Truckee’s energy systems and community resilience in the face of power outages, extreme weather, wildfire, and other disruptions. As part of the planning process, SBC has been soliciting feedback from local businesses to understand how energy reliability and disruptions affect operations, what challenges businesses face, and what kinds of resources, programs, or community-level solutions would be most useful. Between hot, dry summers and stormy winters, the Town must be prepared to respond to power outages in all kinds of situations, which can only be done by fully understanding the experiences of those that live, work, and do business in Truckee during periods of energy instability.

This event will include a short presentation from SBC providing context on power outages in the region, why the Town is developing an Energy Resilience Plan, and analysis of feedback already received. Attendees will then have the opportunity to share their own experiences with power outages and how energy reliability issues have impacted their businesses, organizations, and communities served, especially for those most vulnerable to energy-related impacts.  SBC will be using the digital tool, Menti, to capture the feedback of attendees in their own words. Attendees will have to bring a smartphone or other device that can connect to wifi or use data to participate in this way, but verbal participation is encouraged as well, and those in attendance will get the chance to respond to input and ideas from others. The resulting Energy Resilience Plan will be informed by this feedback to ensure that its actionable strategies reflect the lived experiences, priorities, and values of Truckee’s diverse community.
