Event Description:

After a week of hands-on studying in the field, 8th to 12th grade participants in the Headwaters Girls Summer Science Camp will be stationed throughout the meadow to present what they’ve learned about ecology and hydrology.

Lacey Meadows and Webber Lake have been closed to the public for decades. Come discover the long hidden beauty and charm of the area, walk through Lacey Meadows and find a plethora of Sierra birds and wildflowers. The Lacey Valley Trail, about six miles roundtrip, offers an easy and memorable hike. The meadows offer spectacular wildflowers in spring and summer and are host to over one hundred species of birds, including rare and endangered species. The trail begins at trailhead at the west end of the lake. There is not a bridge across Lacey Creek and for most of the summer your feet will get wet. The trail is wide and mostly flat with an uphill section between Lower and Lacey Meadows. The hike ends where the trail meets the Meadow Lake Road and will return the same way you came.

Hiking details: This hike is an easy 6-mile round-trip hike with a 200’ elevation gain through meadows and woodlands.

Directions:

From Truckee: Take Hwy 89 North about 17 miles from Truckee. Turn left on Jackson Meadows Road and continue west for about 8 miles to the sign for Webber Lake. Turn left and proceed down a dirt road for about a quarter mile. At a closed gate, follow the road as it forks to the right and in about another quarter of a mile is a dirt road to the left with a sign pointing to the TDLT Lacey Meadows parking area. Follow this road for about 0.6 mile to the parking area, interpretive kiosks, and maps of the area.
