Event Description:
80% of North Americans can't see the Milky Way!

"When we can't see the heavens we belong to, we forget we're part of the heavens." Michael Marlin

Let's talk about why dark skies are so important for Truckee's quality of life.

This event is sponsored by the campaign to re-elect Morgan Goodwin to Truckee Town Council, and it's more than just about politics. We're inviting special guest, educator, performer and night-sky enthusiast Michael Marlin as our featured presenter.

Marlin is an international performer and lecturer and his show Luma: Art in Darkness played over the summer last year at the Mont Bleu. Come get a sneak peek at his TEDx talk "Embracing Darkness: How changing our relationship with light can impact the trajectory of climate change." which premiers this December.
Come see the latest in LED dark-sky friendly technology, the world's first 2200K LED and learn about how recent technologies in are creating far better outdoor lighting options for both energy use and the human eye.

Marlin's entertainment is varied and spans over 50 years having been featured in Las Vegas and Head Lined the biggest comedy clubs in LA. http://mindofmarlin.com He will be giving away to the first 25 people his toy invention Slingerzz: The Original Coil Lasso.

Marlin is the quintessential Renaissance man and has led a life that reads like a novel. Running away with the circus, seeing the world with his juggling act, living in a tree house in the jungle, writing and illustrating a book, dreaming up an illuminated show that would go on to play internationally, invent a one-of-a-kind toy, and building a homestead where he lives in a solar powered house.

Marlin's dark sky advocacy: http://Lumican.com
Lumican's mission is to accelerate the adoption of clean technology to significantly reduce energy consumption, improve environmental, health, and safety standards, and support sustainable growth in North America.

Are you passionate about dark skies but aren't sure who else shares your enthusiasm? Come and connect and see how we can work together for a brighter Truckee Milky Way! Worried about the harsh blue LED street lights? There are better solutions.

The evening will feature entertainment from the Marvelous MindBending Manipulations of Michael Marlin
and an astronomy tour.

Snacks and "light" refreshments also provided.

See you in the Dark!
