Job Description

Truckee Surgery Center is seeking a qualified Sterile Processing Technician to join our team. Experience and certification required.


The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for cleaning, decontamination, inspecting, packaging, sterilizing and labeling of reusable medical equipment; assisting in facilitating the daily surgery schedule; pulling cases; assisting with repairs; maintaining sterilization records; maintaining manuals.


Consistently dons PPE and observe safety standards of the sterile processing department and facility

Operates and routinely tests sonic washers and sterilizers per manufacturer instructions.

Decontaminates surgical instruments and equipment through manufacturer instructions.

Performs tray prepping according to established policies.

Inspects, tests and assembles instrument sets per surgical count sheets.

Performs quality checks on sterilization documents and files per department policy.

Participates in education programs, in-services, team building exercises, sterile forensic exercises and other duties.

Accurately picks case carts as required to avoid delays in the operating room.

Assists with room turn-overs.

Matches policy to practice in the execution of routine instrument processing duties as required and instructed.

Adheres to local and national standards of compliance in the execution of duties.

Demonstrates System Values in performance and behavior.

Complies with System policies and procedures.

Ability to step in and assist with front office tasks as needed/assigned.

Tracks items out for repair and ensures availability of loaners, as needed.

Other duties as may be assigned.


High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification from The International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM) or the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD).
