TRUCKEE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE LAUNCHES BUSINESS SPEAKS! TO REDEFINE

COMMUNICATION WITHIN LOCAL BUSINESS COMMUNITY

Grassroots Efforts Will Bring Businesses Together to Talk, Collaborate, and Influence Change

TRUCKEE, Calif. - Dec. 22, 2017 - The Truckee Chamber of Commerce is inviting business owners to come together for 90 minutes every three months in 2018 in order to identify the greatest challenges facing their local business community and to develop creative solutions as a team.

Beginning the week of January 23, 2018, the Truckee Chamber of Commerce will launch Business Speaks! -- a game changing program for communication between business owners in Truckee. Eleven distinct “Base Camp” geographic areas within Truckee will be hubs for business owners to come together to discuss how they can address issues facing Truckee as a whole, or an issue specific to their geographic area.

“In today’s world of mass communication and information overload, we are going back to grassroots efforts and getting people together in a room to talk. We may find that many businesses in close proximity don’t know each other, have never met or even talked. By convening businesses, leaders and influencers for an open exchange of information, we believe we will have a better understanding of what the business community thinks and what their real issues are,” said Lynn Saunders, president and CEO of the Truckee Chamber of Commerce.

“Deepening ties between businesses fosters collaboration,” said John Manocchio, chair-elect of the Chamber Board of Directors. “Collaboration and strategic partnerships are fundamental to improving business outcomes.”

“The business community faces a dynamic and interdependent set of region-wide issues that are larger than one or a few businesses can solve alone. The Chamber Board is committed to driving collaborative innovation for what businesses need today and in the future. To do this, the Board is steadfast in our focus of being a catalyst for change, convener for business, and champion for a stronger business community,” explained Pam Hobday, chair of the Chamber Board of Directors. “Harnessing the strengths and abilities of others is one of the most strategic ways for businesses to solve complex challenges. Over my career, I have seen magic happen when you get people together talking!”

All business owners, including home-based businesses, are invited to attend a meeting in the Base Camp business area where their business is physically located, however attendance at any meeting that is convenient is also welcome. All meetings are inclusive; you don’t need to be a Chamber member to attend. Meetings will last just 90 minutes and will be professionally facilitated with a format designed to allow businesses to speak candidly, while fostering conversation that can lead to creative solutions. To register to attend one of the meetings, business owners are encouraged to visit www.truckeetomorrow.org to find their Base Camp and reserve a spot. Meetings will be held quarterly throughout 2018.
