Tahoe Getaways Vacation Rentals donates all funds from luxury, pet-friendly rental accommodations to the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe

TRUCKEE, Calif. – The Getaways for Good program makes it easy to donate directly to the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe (HSTT) when visitors to North Lake Tahoe book a vacation, or when area homeowners donate their rental for a weekend, week, month or longer through the program. The only difference in the guest experience when staying at a Getaways for Good property, is that 100 percent of the cost of lodging will be donated to HSTT to be used to help save animals and improve the lives of area pets through adoption, spay and neuter services, and humane education programming.

Homeowners can participate in the program by including their properties in Getaways for Good listings, while vacationers can enjoy a dog-friendly stay with all proceeds from the booking donated to HSTT. Each of the pet-friendly properties are professionally serviced by Tahoe Getaways Vacation Rentals, providing renters top-notch guest care.

“Getaways for Good has made a big impact for the Humane Society by providing funds needed to save area pets and offer ongoing resources for their owners. It’s truly a win-win situation. If you give, you get; and if you get, you give,” said Nancy Holliday, program originator and Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe board member.

Five generous homeowners participated in the first weekend of the Getaways for Good program, including Holliday House, a downtown Truckee home available for rent year-round, with all proceeds benefitting HSTT. The first weekend generated $8,359.75 for HSTT, with a grand total of over $40K for the first year the program was implemented.

Friday, April 5 – Monday, April 15 marks the next Getaways for Good booking period. Funds from any three-night stay booked at a participating home during this period will be donated to HSTT.

About the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe and the Town of Truckee:
The Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe was founded in 1994 by a group of volunteers. Shortly after establishment, the Humane Society partnered with the Town of Truckee and has become the driving force of animal welfare in our region through rescue, protection and adoption. The partnership has grown over two decades and was solidified in Sept. 2013, with the grand opening of the region’s first public animal shelter. The facility is located at 10961 Stevens Lane in Truckee and maximizes efficiency and effectiveness by housing public and private entities under the same roof.

The Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe saves 100 percent of the community's adoptable homeless pets and rescues animals from overcrowded shelters whenever space allows. Since opening the doors to their beautiful new shelter they've increased adoptions by 150 percent.

The Humane Society also restored animal welfare services in South Lake Tahoe as of Jan. 2019 and now delivers top-notch services to animals in the Lake Tahoe basin and beyond, creating a circular support system stretching as far north as Sierra County and as far south as areas in Douglas and El Dorado Counties.
