TRUCKEE, Calif. (October 30, 2018) –Excitement is mounting for the upcoming holidays and local non-profit, Truckee Community Christmas, is reminding locals what the season is all about: taking care of each other and helping fellow community members in need.
In the spirit of charitable giving, the remarkable Truckee Community Christmas program identifies people in our community who would most benefit from the generosity of others.
Each year the organization collects coats, toys and food for low-income families, teenage moms and their babies, and homebound seniors. Starting the weekend after Thanksgiving on Saturday, Nov. 24, donation bins will be available at almost 50 locations throughout town to conveniently drop-off items to be wrapped and delivered to their recipients.
Get Involved Now Through December 12
Caring community members can get involved by donating warm, clean, gently used winter coats, or purchasing them new for people of all ages. Coats are accepted at Church of the Mountains in downtown Truckee and at Tahoe Forest Church on Hirschdale Road.
Non-perishable food items and dried pantry staples make meal planning much easier, especially during the holidays. Food and kitchen items are accepted at Safeway, Save Mart, La Galleria, Coldwell Banker, Truckee Elementary, Glenshire Elementary and Alder Creek Middle School.
Sometimes it’s the less-crucial gifts that really make spirits bright. Truckee Community Christmas ensures that kids and kids-at-heart also have plenty of toys and fun presents to open for the holidays. Toy donations are accepted at almost 20 locations around town.

Truckee Community Christmas will update locals on specific donation requests at

Helpful canned food: vegetables, fruit, soup, enchilada sauce, fish and meat, jam, cooking oil, granola bars, fruit cups, Jell-O, juice and nutrition shakes like Ensure.
Dried pantry staples: beans, rice, noodles, cereals, lard, instant coffee and tea, chicken and beef bouillon cubes, masa, flour, sugar, tamale husks, macaroni and cheese, nuts, popcorn, paper towels, toilet paper, napkins and dish soap.
Donations are accepted all year long; anything gathered after this holiday drive will be put toward next year’s gifts. In addition to goods and services, help is needed to sort and pack donated food and gifts at the SELS school gym on Donner Pass Road on December 13 and 14.
