The Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe is dedicated to saving and improving the lives of pets through adoption, community spay/neuter and humane education programs.
Founded in 1994 by a group of committed volunteers, the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe has become the driving force in animal rescue and adoption for the Truckee region.
Town of Truckee Animal Control works closely with the Humane Society of Truckee Tahoe in the same building. Our shelter located at 10961 Stevens Lane in Truckee is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
In person dog licenses will only be issued at the Truckee Animal Shelter Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information on dog licensing, please call (530) 582-2930 during those times.
Animal Services is responsible for enforcing both state and town ordinances relating to the keeping and treatment of domestic animals. The ordinance regarding Animal Services can be found in the Municipal Code, Title 8—Animal Control.
Animal Services also handles the town’s Vehicle Abatement Program, which provides for the removal of abandoned, wrecked, or inoperable vehicles within town limits.
