    Atelier Truckee is a place for tactile living that connects artists, collectors and community through workshops, supplies and limited edition art pieces. The retail-studio space is nestled in historic, downtown Truckee, California, just doors down from the husband-and-wife team Brian Hess and Heather River’s flagship shop, Bespoke.

    Founded in 2015, Atelier offers a collection of hand-sourced 2-D prints, paintings and designer art wares and an exclusive collection of artist supplies, materials and yarn.

    Atelier strives to be the creative hub of the local art community by hosting workshops taught by the area’s most sought after artists, illustrators, designers, weavers, painters and more who share the vision to create always and inspire all.

    Basketry has roots in many cultures. Locally we see the indigenous people using native grasses, needles, ferns, and fibers. This class will be teaching an adaptation of twined basketry that can be found in the Americas and in Europe, as well as on other continents. Soft fiber basketry allows you to reuse materials that may otherwise go to waste. We will learn a basic technique of twined basketry using natural fibers and recycled yarns.     The egg has long been a symbol of new life, new beginnings, fertility, and shared as a token of love, friendship, and good wishes throughout the year. Ukrainian Egg Dying or “Pysanky” is an ancient art form akin to Batik. Melted beeswax is applied with a stylist called a “kistka” and the egg is dipped into a secession of dye baths. Between each dipping wax is applied over areas where the preceding color is to remain. After the final dye bath, and all wax is removed, the colorful result of your design is revealed. ...read more

    The study of human expression is a long held tradition of art. The slow drying time of oil paints makes it an incredible medium to work with in the genre of portraiture. Local portrait artist Anke Hass covers the foundational skills needed to work with oil paints, binders, odorless solvents, value, texture and how to apply these magical paints to the surface.     Woven wall hangings are back in a big way! Atelier owner, Heather River, passes on her passion and is ready to get everyone working with yarn.
